Junior League and Gold Medal Baking Sponsor a Holiday Cookie Exchange
Costa Mesa, November 20, 2004 - As the temperature was dropping, ovens around Orange County were heating up to begin the holiday baking season. Kids from The Boys & Girls Club of Garden Grove joined The Impact OC Committee along with volunteers from JLOCC Board, at Orange Coast College on November 20 for a holiday cookie exchange, co-sponsored by Gold Medal.
Fifteen JLOCC members teamed up with 12 lucky boys and girls to bake different cookie recipes. The recipes were based on America's favorite holiday cookies sponsored by Gold Medal and the makers of Press'n Seal wrap. Peanut Butter Blossoms topped the list, followed by Sugar Cookies, Snickerdoodles, Gingerbread, Macaroons, Pecan Sandies, and Mexican Wedding Cakes to name a few. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity, as for many of them this event was their first occasion to bake.
After baking all the cookies, JLOCC members and the kids shared lunch donated by Gold Medal and recapped the exciting day. The cookies, as well as the additional baking ingredients, were donated to a local women's shelter. The 12 sets of cooking supplies, including bowls, mixers, and utensils, were donated to Canyon Acres and Laura's House.
The event enabled JLOCC members to provide the kids with essential life and leadership skills and gave the children some time with adult role models. Gold Medal flour and the makers of Press'n Seal wrap provided an in-kind donation of $5,000 in supplies to JLOCC to host the exchange.
