Fuzzy Zoeller, Andy Bean Hosted Wells Fargo Junior Clinic At 2005 Toshiba Senior Classic
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March, 2005 - Former Masters champion Fuzzy Zoeller and 11-time PGA TOUR tournament winner Andy Bean played host to more than 75 children from the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove on Saturday, March 19, at the Wells Fargo Junior Clinic at the Toshiba Senior Classic at Newport Beach Country Club.
The children were invited to attend the second round of the Toshiba Senior Classic, receive dinner provided by Wells Fargo, and participate in the clinic with Zoeller and Bean, including an opportunity to hit golf shots.
The Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove held mini golf clinics to prepare the children for the Wells Fargo Junior Clinic. They were taught the basics of the game and golf etiquette. The children now have a great appreciation for the game of golf. Jennifer Diaz, a fourth grader from Skylark Elementary said "this is the best day of my life - it is better than going to Disneyland."
"We were delighted to be able to sponsor the Wells Fargo Junior Clinic because it raises significant funds for Hoag Hospital and it provides a unique opportunity for children who might not otherwise have the chance to do so to participate in golf," said Jayme Ault, Wells Fargo branch manager and board member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove. She went on to say "what a great day it was for us as volunteers, the children were excited throughout the afternoon and when it came time for them to grab a club and hit a ball their faces lit up with excitement."
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove - the positive place for kids - has been providing places for children to go during non-school hours since 1956. Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove includes 5 sites which serve more than 1,200 boys and girls, ages 5 - 17, everyday from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm. Because of Orange County's high cost of housing, the large percentage of single-parent families and the increasing number of immigrant families, it leads the nation in the need for care for children. They provide more than quality supervision at an affordable price; character building, education, and enrichment opportunities and in addition to teaching arts and crafts, cooking and sports, they teach socialization and living skills in a positive and nurturing environment. They also offer homework assistance and academic support to assure success in school and in life.
