HOPE Kids Receive Community Spotlight
Boys and Girls Club H.O.P.E. Dance Team
In Recognition of Your Performance at the Boys and Girls Club Centennial National Convention in Boston
Tonight, the Garden Grove City Council is proud to present a Community Spotlights honoring outstanding members of the community for their achievements.
Our Spotlight honorees tonight are the members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Garden Grove H.O.P.E. Dance Team, who just returned from their performance at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America Centennial National Convention in Boston.
These 15 students, who attend various Boys and Girls Clubs, are from Doig and Fitz Intermediate Schools. There they participate in the "Hope and Opportunity through Performing and Entertaining," or H.O.P.E. program which is designed to expand music and dance opportunities while allowing students to share their talents and teach one another.
The students, who are in seventh and eighth grades, performed as part of the Opening Ceremony, showcasing songs and dance styles from across the last ten decades during their five-minute performance. The group carried out their show in front of many notable individuals, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
For many of the students who performed, this trip involved their first flight in an airplane or stay in a hotel. While in Boston, the students learned about the history and influence the city had while shaping early America, walked along the Freedom Trail, and had the opportunity to enjoy an authentic New England lobster dinner.
The Mayor and City Council presented the group with certificates in recognition of their performance with the H.O.P.E. Dance Team. The City Council applauds their continued participation in the programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club, and for their noteworthy representation of Garden Grove at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America National Conference. Congratulations on this great achievement.
