Girls From Clinton Branch Attend Screening of New BRATZ Movie
Twenty girls from Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove's Clinton Kids Club Branch were recently the special guests of Lionsgate at an advance screening of the film company's new movie BRATZ. The movie opens nationwide on August 3. The girls were chosen to attend based on their participation in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's (BGCA) SMART Girls and Family PLUS program.
In the film, four childhood friends find themselves being pulled apart as they enter high school. However, they band together to fight peer pressure and learn the true values of camaraderie. The positive messages provided by their situations are reflective of the lessons girls learn through their participation at the CLUB.
In addition, several of the girls attended the screening with their moms/guardians, supporting BGCA's mission to also reach out to families through Family PLUS (Parents Leading, Uniting, Serving), an initiative that provides an opportunity for Clubs to continue or initiate family inclusion activities and events in their Club community.
"The girls truly enjoyed the movie," said Evelyn Matua, Director of Clinton Kids Club. "They were inspired by how the characters dealt with conflict and negative situations. It reinforced what our program teaches them about how to handle difficulties while remaining true to themselves."
