Family Literacy Fundraiser
Family Literacy Awareness Event to Benefit the REACH for Literacy Program
Barnes & Noble in Orange will host a family literacy awareness event on Saturday, December 1st & Sunday, December 2nd, to benefit the REACH for Literacy Program in Garden Grove. The event will raise awareness of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove and the Garden Grove Unified School District's family literacy efforts in the community.

This year, the event will have two fun-filled days of activities for kids, face painting, free books, and story time between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm. Our families of the program will also give testimonials about their experiences in our program.
On Saturday, December 1st, we will be
featuring a variety of family fun games provided by Barnes & Noble. On
Sunday, December 2nd, we will be featuring hula classes for you
and your family from 11 am to 3 pm, as well as showcase special performances from kids in the community. Please bring your family and friends to take part in this wonderful event. Additionally, a percentage of purchases made at the
bookstore using the attached voucher will go towards our program. Last year, your generous support helped fund our very first family fieldtrip and community-wide literacy fair.
Currently the family literacy program, REACH (Reading Education for Adults and CHildren) for Literacy, provides English language instruction for adults, and also equips parents with specific techniques for becoming involved
with their child's education. REACH also offers language
enrichment activities and homework assistance to children 2 to 14 years old,
including reading clubs and library fieldtrips. REACH hopes to
increase literacy in the home, empowering parents as their child's first and
most important role models.
We are also pleased to announce our Pat & Oscars
fundraiser event on the same days and in the same shopping center as the
Barnes and Noble event. Add fabulous food to your exciting day between the
hours of 10:30 am and 9 pm. Like Barnes and Noble, a percentage of your
purchase will go towards our program.
We really look forward to seeing all of you at our
spectacular event this year! We welcome any additional ideas you may have to
make this year greater than the last!

REACH for Literacy
is designed to teach basic through intermediate English skills to
non-native speakers, while also providing parents with specific techniques for
becoming more actively involved in their child's education. We at the REACH for
Literacy program concern ourselves with empowering second language parents as
the first and most important teachers and role models in their child's lives.
The Boys & Girls Clubs
have played an integral role in the Garden Grove community for over 50 years,
providing daily programs and services to over 5,000 young people. The Clubs are
open daily with programs in character and leadership development, education and
career enhancement, the arts, health and life skills, and sports, fitness and
recreation.
Barnes & Noble
is committed to literary-based sponsorships and seeks to partner with
organizations that focus their core businesses on higher learning, literacy and
the arts. Barnes & Noble works to make its
bookstores an integral part of the lives of their communities -- centers of
commerce with environments where people can meet, share ideas and choose from
the world's largest selection of books.
Pat & Oscars
is dedicated to making a difference in the community. In addition to providing
fabulous food, Pat & Oscars also helps local
schools and community-based organizations raise funds through their very own
fundraising program.
