Club Members Awarded With $100 ChildSpree From Mervyns

Store Donates $2000 To Benefit Students Going Back To School

The Mervyns located at 13092 Harbor Boulevard, Garden Grove provided $2000 for students to go on their own Back to School Shopping as part of their annual "Childspree" program.

Twenty members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove participated in the ChildSpree and were selected based on their family need this past Saturday. These members were provided with a $100 gift certificate and a 15% discount to shop with their parents for new clothes, shoes, and accessories.

Maria M. is entering the 5th grade this fall. "Thank you to Mervyns and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove for everything. This helps out a lot for our family especially with this economy." Maria and her sister Melissa have been members at the Bryant Unit for two years and are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the ChildSpree program.

"ChildSpree offers kids who may not otherwise be able to afford back-to-school clothes the opportunity to choose new clothes, shoes and accessories to return to school feeling confident and ready to succeed," said Desiree Aquino, Mervyns Community Relations. "This year, ChildSpree served more than 9,000 kids in Mervyns' communities. For more than 15 years, organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club have participated in ChildSpree events at Mervyns stores and outfitted more than 190,000 children."

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove and Mervyn's desire is to make an impact and a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged but deserving children in our community.

"We are grateful to Mervyns for helping our youth with their Back to School Shopping." said Paul V. Ramirez, Family Support Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove. "Many of our families do not have the resources to buy new clothes every school year."
