The Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove (BGCGG) provides hope and opportunity through school age, family strengthening, and community outreach programs, offering over 60 program locations that serve over 6,000 children daily and 10,000 families annually. BGCGG’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our vision is to ensure that the children and youth who attend our programs become competent adults, caring parents, and responsible citizens.

Class:                         Volunteer
Commitment:         Complete a minimum of 120 volunteer hours
Schedule:                 At least two days per week and at least two hours per day
Location:                  One of BGCGG’s various ASES or Club sites

Primary Function: Develops and implements programs and services that align with the organization’s mission, vision and philosophies as well as grant and GGUSD guidelines. Serves as a role model for youth and establishes meaningful relationships that will encourage and motivate youth and family participation.

·       Uses effective communication and maintains a professional tone in written and verbal communication consistently with staff members, volunteers, school personnel, parents and all community stakeholders
·       Communicates all pertinent program information with supervisor
·       Follows communication guidelines in regards to attendance procedures, including but not limited to:
o   Calls out 2 hours in advance and notifies supervisor of potential late arrival
o   Requests time off 10 days in advance
o   Sign in and out daily on timesheet with supervisor approval
·       Responds to all forms of communication in a timely manner
·       Maintains BGCGG Core Values and mission; follows BGCGG and GGUSD standards of conduct
·       Builds rapport with team, school personnel, members and families
·       Demonstrates flexibility
·       Maintains a cooperative and healthy work environment
·       Follows BGCGG Appearance Guidelines
·       Performs as a positive role model for youth and peers
·       Completes assigned tasks and performs responsibilities in a timely manner (i.e. clerical, housekeeping)
·       Assists with special events, family nights, or other celebrations
·       May attend staff meetings, trainings, and fieldtrips
Problem Solving
·       Demonstrates effective problem solving methods
·       Adepts at conflict resolution
·       Minimizes interpersonal conflict
Program Development & Implementation
·       Develops and implements Character & Leadership and Education & Career program curriculum at least once per week
·       Develops positive and professional relationships with the members, parents and families through interactions at the sign out table, family nights, focus groups and other BGCGG sponsored events
·       Encourages members to participate in a variety of program activities; utilizes and maintains resources effectively
·       Maintains an orderly and clean area as well as respects school property; ensures program areas are safe
·       Ensures members are recognized with positive reinforcement (i.e. Be Great Traits)
·       Currently enrolled in Child and Adolescent Studies, Early Childhood Education, Social Ecology, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology or other related program
·       Childcare and educational experience a plus
·       Bilingual capabilities a plus (Spanish or Vietnamese)
·       Must be at least 18 years of age to work with elementary/preschool aged youth
·       Must be at least 21 years of age to work with junior high/high school youth
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
·       Ability to uphold organization’s mission and values
·       Basic knowledge of group dynamics and youth development
·       Ability to effectively use written, verbal, and non-verbal communication
·       Ability to develop positive relationships and set appropriate boundaries
·       Awareness of classroom management and behavior strategies
·       Ability to adapt and be flexible
·       Ability to manage priorities and tasks including effective time management
·       Ability to recognize potential issues and apply problem solving as needed
·       Must be able to collaborate effectively
·       Uses resources effectively
·       Position may require standing/sitting for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist; seeing to review and analyze reports, documents or other reports; hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; speaking to be heard before groups of people; position may require to lift, carry, pull or otherwise move objects between 10-20 pounds
