When Hede and Robert Archer start cooking with their children, the rest of life goes on the back burner.
There is no sorrow that will not fade when confronted with the bold aroma of jerk chicken. There is no nagging worry that cannot be drowned with a glass of cool Calypso punch. Bad feelings melt like butter inside those fried Jamaican dumplings.
In the Archer household, dinner is a sacred, happy ritual. "Food is how we bond, yeah maan," says Hede, her tuneful Caribbean accent drawing out vowels as as smooth as her famous okra sauce.
