KaBOOM! and Nutrilite Come Together To Bring Club Members' Dream Designs to a Reality
GARDEN GROVE, CA-- As each child proudly wore an "I am a playground designer" sticker on their shirt, Tuesday, October 7th, Club members from Rosita Elementary School presented to the leaders of KaBOOM!, Nutrilite, Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove, and the Garden Grove School District, colorful drawings and designs of their dream playground. Comprised of a talented team of 25 of creative Club members, they envisioned monorail bars, circular monkey bars, seesaws, shade structures, wobbly bridges, rock climbing walls, and big spiral slides. Their imaginations are in the process of becoming a reality.
Nutrilite, a world leading brand of vitamin, mineral, and dietary supplements, and KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing play back into the lives of children, as well as the Garden Grove Unified School District are teaming up to build new playground for Rosita Elementary School on Thursday, November 20th, 2008.
Rosita Elementary School's current playground, built in 1956, is bare, boring, and desperately needs a makeover. "Despite the economic and gang-related challenges in our community, children come to school every day with a positive attitude," said Ms. Salazar, Principal of Rosita Elementary School. Building the new playground will offer more than playful and positive place for kids, it will also build morale for the community bringing together a diverse group of volunteers in order to get involved and fulfill one common cause: to enhance the children's well being. The playground will develop fitness goals, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.
While some volunteers work on the construction of the playground, other volunteers will work on additional side projects. This includes providing shade in the playground area by planting trees. "I am thankful that all of you came," said Valentina, a 6th grade Club member at Rosita Elementary, "We really do need new playground, shade, and trees. Not only is it good for the environment, but it also gives us a place where we can do our homework."
