Southern California College of Optometry's mission is to provide the highest quality optometric education through excellence in teaching, patient care, research and public service. SCCO's Pediatric Vision Care Services is staffed by distinguished clinical faculty, optometric interns, and support personnel, and offers an ideal setting for the comprehensive care of children. SCCO has designed their vision examinations to be child friendly by checking vision using age appropriate targets and game-like tests. Children will receive an individualized vision plan that is designed to optimize his or her visual, developmental, and educational needs. A community and professional resource, the Pediatric Vision Care Service, specializes in the complete eye and vision care of children. Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove (BGCGG) will adhere to the legacy of delivering quality programs while expanding the way we serve children and families. BGCGG will offer the ARCHES Program focusing on child counseling, outreach & referral, and family support services. These programs will also enhance and complement the traditional children's health service delivery model by expanding the assessment beyond the physical to ensure the needs of the whole child are met. In addition, BGCGG will host the Southern California College of Optometry and support services of the pediatric vision care program. ARCHES will use its many existing partnerships in the community and specifically the Garden Grove Unified School District to develop a plan for outreach and access to Children's Health & Dental Center services for all children. Child/Family counseling will offer 12 weeks of therapy to children and families staffed by a part time clinical supervisor and up to 3 part time registered interns. Outreach & referral services will serve to link families to services within the health center and beyond including housing and job placement assistance. The Family Support Services will include trainings and workshops on topics such as parenting, health, and budgeting. Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) will be the provider of pediatric medical services to the Children of the Garden Grove Community. Medical services will include well child care, immunizations, sick care, specialty care referral, and education on childhood safety such as child passenger safety and bicycle safety. A certified application assistant will be on site to screen and enroll families onto the California state-sponsored Medi-Cal and Healthy Families Program health insurance. The Clinic will be licensed by the Department of Health Services as a Community Clinic. The three year projection for medical services is 9,000 patient visits provided by a staff of 12 medical and support personnel including 1 full-time physician, 1 full-time charge nurse, 2 front office staff, 1 community educator and the clinic manager. Dental treatment services will be provided 5 days per week. The clinical space will have seven dental operatories served by 2 dentists. In addition, a partnership with USC Dental School will bring a pediatric dental residency program to the Healthy Smiles Dental Center |
