The volunteers used striping and traffic paint to create the enormous replica of the United States. Borrowed stencils, thanks to Garden Grove Unified School District's generosity, were laid on the cement and the work began. Under four hours the work was completed. Staff members are exited for this new venue of educational activities. "Children learn differently and with the new map we can design hands on activities," explains Rene Hutchings, Main Branch Program Director, "It's just beautiful and all the members are very excited." The process of renovating the four gardens was an enormous task, but the volunteers, our staff, and especially our hard working members pulled off the job. The gardens also act as useful new learning tools that all can benefit from. Health and Life Skill programs and activities at the club have incorporated spices and herbs from the gardens. The members are able to participate in Education and Career Development programs and activities by sitting in the sun and reading amongst the flowers or learning gardening skills. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove are very grateful to Household Finance Company and Garden Grove Unified School District. The new additions have added brilliance and style to the Club. |
