Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove Hosts Free BE GREAT GARDEN GROVE Family Fair

Calling All Youth, Families, and the Community to BE GREAT

Garden Grove, CA (April 23, 2010) – On Saturday, May 1st 2010 from 10AM-2PM, families can have a fun day out with family and friends at the BE GREAT GARDEN GROVE Family Fair, at Atlantis Play Center, located at 13630 Atlantis Way in Garden Grove. Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove (BGCGG) will host the fair, offering free public admission all day. Free lunches will be served on a first come, first serve bases and food, as well as discounts on BGCGG summer program packages.  BGCGG will collaborate with a dozen community partners to provide an information booth on free family resources.  Activities will be hosted by BGCGG staff members who will be running activities such as arts, crafts, games, face painting, a fun photo booth, and a featured BGCGG Youth Talent Show. In addition, BGCGG is hosting a canned food drive and is encouraging the community to bring in their canned food in exchange for raffle tickets.

While many families spend most of their time and energy on many commitments, such as their careers, homes, health, finances, and friendships, children are the community’s greatest and most important responsibility. BE GREAT GARDEN GROVE Family Fair is an opportunity for families to focus on spending quality time with their children and connect with other families and friends.  The fair also serves the needs of the community through an array of BGCGG programs and partner resources, including afterschool youth programs, reading education for families, access to children’s health resources and counseling services, a variety of parenting classes, and much more (see chart on next page.)

ABOUT BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GARDEN GROVE

For more than 50 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove (BGCGG) has helped kids “BE GREAT” by changing and saving young lives, playing an integral role in its community. Striving to help children succeed in life, Boys & Girls Clubs provide hope and opportunity through afterschool, family support, and community outreach programs. Known as The Positive Place For Kids, our 57 program sites serve over 5,000 young people from “Diapers to Diplomas,” ages 18 months-18 years old, every day.

The Clubs are open daily with programs in character and leadership development, education and career enhancement, the arts, health and life skills, and sports, fitness and recreation. Our family outreach programs such as Family Campus Preschool, School Readiness, REACH For Literacy (Reading Education for Adults & CHildren), ARCHES (Access to Resources for Children's Health, Education and Support), FYOP (Family & Youth Outreach Program), and TRC (Truancy Reduction Center) expand our services to ensure that the needs of the whole child are met. Through our efforts we do our best to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
