Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove Host Earned Income Tax Credit Workshops GARDEN GROVE, CA- During this difficult economic time, tax season is an additional strain on many Americans. Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove (BGCGG) is teaming up with Orange County United Way and Legal Aid Society of Orange County to sponsor Free Community Tax Days to help alleviate the stress and anxiety of filing taxes. The goals of the Free Community Tax Days are to assist families in filing their taxes and claim the tax credits they are eligible for. It will also offer knowledge and tools on how to obtain the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the primary anti-poverty program in the United States offered to low-income individuals and families who meet IRS guidelines. Many families are unaware of this tax credit and each year an estimated amount of $41 to $65 million EITC dollars go unclaimed in Orange County. The good news is that in the 2008 tax season, BGCGG helped some 80 families save more than $110,000 through the Earned Income Tax Credit. This year the Free Community Tax Days will not only be utilizing the user friendly I-Can e-file program, but also will offer certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistors (VITA) for those individuals who need additional assistance with their taxes. The Free Community Tax Days are scheduled to take place at Clinton Kids Club at in Garden Grove on February 7, 21, and March 14th from 9am-2pm.
