Faces of the Future

Each month Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove highlights Faces of the Future.  Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove (BGCGG) has changed and saved lives, enabling young people to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Striving to help children “BE GREAT”, Boys & Girls Clubs plays an integral role in its community by providing children hope and opportunity through school age, family support, and community outreach programs.

Favorite Program Area:  The Arts & Sports because I was involved in Fine Arts and my artwork was displayed at the exhibit.  I love sports because my mom couldn't put me on a team outside of school and with the Club, I can now play on a team against other schools. 
 
Favorite BGCGG Memory:  During Unlock the Potential when we got shave our staff's head, dunk our supervisor in a water tank, and throw pies in the rest of the staff's face. I also remember the Family Night Fiesta because there was folkclorico group and real Mexican food. My last favorite memory was a water activity last year.
 
Future Career: A Pro Soccer Player
 
Fun Fact: I am a part of school band and I play the saxophone. I am a part of Girl's Scout. I know how to read music and taught a staff how to read and decode music.
 
Who is your hero and why? 
My hero is my mom because she is the only parent.  She is a hardworking person who provides for four kids with her jobs.

Favorite BGCGG Memory: My BGCGG memory was when we went to the Ducks (Honda Center) and got to practice hockey. I also loved seeing the whole Honda Center and the Trumboni machine.

My mom is my hero because she always cares for us. She tries her best by working so she can provide for us. She encourages us to go to school so we can have a better life than she did. She doesn’t care if she eats, but only if we do. She sacrifices all she has just for me and my siblings. That’s why I love her and why she’s my hero.

Favorite BGCGG Memory: My favorite Main Branch memory is the water balloon fight event during the Unlock the Potential Campaign. The more money you donated, the more balloons you got to throw at the staff!

Fun Fact: Everyday my mom and I carpool for 2 hours to get to school.
 
What's would you do with a big lucky pot of gold?
I read somehwere that if you put a gold coin your shoe, it would disappear and you would be lucky.  So, I would put all the gold coins in one shoe, so I could be the luckiest person ever!

If you could invent something that would make life easier, what would it be? I would make everything techonoligcal, so that everything and anything you want can be done for you.  For a house, if you wanted a meal, a kitchen would be able to cook  your meal for you.

Favorite BGCGG Memory: Back then, we used to do special field trips for the teens. I remember we went to Six Flags and spent the night at the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Clarita and got up and went to Six Flags again. We did that two years in a row, and it was really fun.
 
Where are you now?  I am currently working at Edgar Branch as a Club Lead and am attending Cal State Fullerton with a major in Anthropology. BGC really helped a lot and gave me a place to be. Because of the club, I was more career and education oriented. The club really put me on the path to be successful in life.
 
Fun Fact: I still like to play Pokeman. I am waiting for the new game to come out in October or November.
 
If you were a kid for a day, what would you do?  I would be outside and try everything. A lot kids stick to one activity and don’t really branch out and try new things. I would try everything so that I wouldn’t be bored and have something new to do every day.

Where are you now?  I am the Assistant Director of the Family Campus Preschool. I graduated from Cal State Fullerton in Child Development and I just finished my Masters in Counseling at Cal State Long Beach. 
 
Fun Fact: I am really big True Blood fan and am obsessed with that show. I love yoga and decorative baking.

Favorite BGCGG Memory: Last summer when I was on the sports team where we got to play championships.  At the dodge ball championship game, since the team was uneven, I had to play for the opposing team.  I caught all the balls and got almost every out. It was hot and I was tired, but I wasn’t afraid of the ball. It’s nice to feel proud in the moment when your team tells you good job.
