FYOP (Family & Youth Outreach Program) provides counseling, educational classes, and other community programs that are designed to meet the special needs of the Garden Grove community. FYOP works closely with the Garden Grove Police Department and Garden Grove Unified School District to serve at-risk youth who are having behavioral issues at school or at home. We also work closely with their families to ensure that the appropriate services are given to meet their child’s needs.
FYOP offers individual, family, and group counseling, educational classes, truancy reduction services, referral services and other diversion programs for youth and their families.
All of our counselors and class facilitators are Master’s level professionals either in their last year of graduate study or post-graduate as registered Marriage and Family Therapist Interns. Our services are available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
Eligibility
We serve youth 18 years old and younger that are residents of Garden Grove and/or attend a school within the Garden Grove Unified School District.

Juvenile Offender Education
This course is designed to educate youth and their families on the laws and regulations relating to minors. Designed in collaboration with the Garden Grove Police Department for first-time juvenile offenders, this course is also helpful to youth who appear to be experimenting with illegal behavior. JOE is taught to youth and their parents during 2 sessions that are 3 hours each.
Drug and Alcohol Education
This course is designed to educate youth on the consequences of drug-use and empower them to be responsible for their own choices of health and safety. The course is made up of 3 sessions that are 2 hours each. Parents are required to attend the first session by themselves in order to learn about the dangers of drug use, how to communicate with their children, and gain greater awareness of drug and alcohol trends in youth.
Anger Management Group
We offer two separate groups by age: a 14 years and younger group and a 14 years and older group. Each group is made up of 7 sessions. Youth are guided into identifying and understanding their feelings and being proactive rather than reactive in times of stress and anger.
Parenting Education
Our parenting classes are for adults and focus on family conflict resolution. They help to enhance effective communication, setting appropriate limits, and teaching responsibility between parents and their children. In addition, FYOP provides short-term and ongoing groups to parents interested in working through individual and familial issues in the group setting.

Community Service Program

After being assigned community service due to truancy or other behavioral consequences, youth are required to search out a designated non-profit agency to dedicate free work time in order to build skills of accountability and responsibility.

Individuals who have participated in any type of vandalism are referred to our graffiti removal program where they commit to a 6-hour Saturday session of beautifying an area of Garden Grove through painting, trash collection, sweeping, pruning, etc, while giving youth pride in their community.
Teenage Runaway Intervention Program (TRIP)
